Secvura is now incorporated as a private limited company in England and Wales, registered at Companies House under company number 17292680. It is a routine milestone, but it is worth saying plainly, because it matters more than it looks when you are deciding who to trust with your security.
Before you let a security firm near your code, check it is a real company
A security review means giving an outside team genuine access to your application and your data. So there is one basic question worth asking of any supplier, before their price or their approach: are they an accountable legal entity you can verify and hold responsible? It is quick to check and easy to overlook.
- Look them up on the public register. A UK company appears on Companies House with its number, registered office and directors. If a supplier is not there, or will not give you a company number, that is worth a pause. Ours is 17292680.
- Check they can contract properly. A registered company can put in place the engagement letters and data processing agreements your legal and procurement teams will expect. A loosely defined individual often cannot, which becomes your problem later.
- Make sure the accountability is real. An incorporated company has a legal identity that continues beyond any one person and can be held to its obligations. That is the whole point of asking.
Your own buyers run the same check on you
If you sell software, your customers apply the same test. When their procurement team sends a security questionnaire or a vendor review, being able to show that your suppliers are themselves registered and accountable is one less thing you have to explain. A clean chain of verifiable partners makes your own answers easier to give.
